About Us
Established in late 2010, the National Bone Health Alliance (NBHA) is a public-private partnership that brings together the expertise and resources of various partners across a broad spectrum to promote bone health and prevent disease; improve diagnosis and treatment of bone disease; and enhance bone research, surveillance and evaluation.
NBHA is developing three initial projects: a secondary fracture prevention initiative, public and health professional awareness campaign, and bone turnover marker standardization project. In addition, NBHA serves as an advocate for topics important to bone health, most notably Vitamin D, Calcium, dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) reimbursement and utilization and the long-term use of bisphosphonates and other therapies.
The 36 members of the Alliance (as well as liaisons representing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health and U.S. Food and Drug Administration) are working from a shared vision: to improve the overall health and quality of life of all Americans by enhancing their bone health.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that some older women with normal bone density may be able to delay follow-up testing, but guidelines for women with or at risk for osteoporosis remain unchanged. View NBHA’s response to news coverage of the study.
